This eLearning module is divided into 4 key lessons (Lessons 1-4). Each lesson comprises a video presentation conveying the core material. Most presentations are under 10 minutes long to facilitate opportunistic learning. Supplementary lessons, where non-core material is presented, and relevant printable and downloadable material are also included within most lessons.
A further additional lesson (Lesson 5) is also included, which presents a number of clinical cases. The National Cancer Control Programme have worked with the ICGP on development of this module. Development of this module was funded by an unrestricted educational grant from Glaxo Smith Kline


    The 6 lessons include:
    • Lesson 1: Epidemiology & Pathogenesis of BPH 
      This lesson highlights some epidemiological data on BPH, presents a summary of current thinking on its pathogenesis and outlines the main risk factors.
    • Lesson 2: Clinical Presentation 
      This lesson considers lower urinary tract symptoms suggestive of BPH and also the differential diagnoses of LUTS in men. In terms of initial assessment, the International Prostate Symptom Score Sheet (IPSS) and the importance of performing a DRE are also highlighted. 
    • Lesson 3: PSA Testing 
      This lesson summarises current controversies and guidelines surrounding the use of screening & PSA testing. 
    • Lesson 4: Management of BPH 
      This lesson presents the main lifestyle, pharmacological and surgical treatment options currently considered for patients diagnosed with BPH.
    • Lesson 5: Case Scenarios 
      This lesson presents 5 consultations that raise issues relevant to the management of LUTS.
    • Lesson 6: BPH MCQ Quiz 
       On completion of this module, which includes a short MCQ, you will be awarded 3 External CPD Credits.
