Welcome to this module focusing on Primary Childhood Immunisation, which is one of a series of modules in the ICGP Immunisation eLearning Programme. The purpose of the eLearning series is to support General Practitioners in safe & efficient delivery of vaccination programmes, in line with current guidelines for best practice. New Schedule Information 2016
Please note that all babies born on or after the first of October 2016 should be offered the new PCI schedule. This is addressed in Lesson 5 of this module. Two PCI schedules will run in parallel until November 2017 at least. The 'old' schedule is outlined in Lesson 1 and the new schedule is outlined in Lesson 5 of this module.

There are 4 lessons as follows:
Lesson 1: Overview of Primary Childhood Immunisation
This lesson provides an overview of the Primary Childhood Immunisation Programme, including guidance on defaulters and late entrants. Advice on addressing vaccine hesitancy with parents is also presented.
Lesson 2: Vaccine Administration
This lesson provides a checklist of issues to consider and steps to follow before, during and following administration of a vaccine to babies & young children. Precautions & contraindications are also discussed.
Lesson 3: Issues around Consent to Vaccination in Children
This lesson highlights the issue of obtaining & recording informed consent prior to vaccine administration in children. The importance of providing appropriate information is also discussed.
Lesson 4: Highlighting Issues Relevant to Vaccination in Children
This lesson is presented by Dr. Kevin Connolly, Chairman of the National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC), and is an overview of thoughts, experience & advice around childhood immunisation.
Lesson 5: The New Primary Childhood Immunisation Schedule
The new Primary Childhood Immunisation (PCI) Schedule was introduced in October 2016. All babies born on or after the first of October 2016 should be offered the new PCI schedule, which is outlined in this lesson.
NOTE: While a number of ICGP modules have a tight focus on one or two domains, most modules endeavour to address all domains to some degree (low, medium, high). This is clearly displayed in the diagram below
