This eLearning module is divided into 4 key lessons (Lessons 5-8). Each lesson comprises a video presentation conveying the core material. Most presentations are under 10 minutes long to facilitate opportunistic learning. Supplementary lessons, where non-core material is presented, and relevant printable and downloadable material are also included within most lessons.Development of this module was funded by an unrestricted educational grant from Atlantic Philanthropies & HSE, through the Elevator Project.

The 4 lessons are as follows:
  • Lesson 5: Living with Dementia in the Community
    This lesson acknowledges the struggle to provide care in the community, but also highlights the central role of social prescribing in dementia care. 
  • Lesson 6: Pharmacotherapy in the Management of Dementia
    Pharmacotherapy in dementia care comprises medications licensed for treatment of the condition, and medications which address associated symptoms. This lesson focuses on medications used in the treatment of dementia, and summarises the currently recommended options. 
  • Lesson 7: Review & Monitoring of Dementia
    The quality of care provided to patients with dementia can be improved by focusing on key areas at regular intervals. This lesson highlights the importance of screening for depression, review of medications, social care & risk management, and review of health & wellbeing of carers. 
  • Lesson 8: The Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD)
    BPSD is a general term used to describe a range of behavioural and psychological symptoms experienced by patients with dementia. This lesson discusses how BPSD can be addressed in primary care. 
  • Dementia Case Scenarios- A number of Clinical Cases in Dementia

The Medical Council has defined eight domains of good professional practice. These domains describe a framework of competencies applicable to all doctors across the continuum of professional development from formal medical education and training through to maintenance of professional competence. Since they describe the outcomes which doctors should strive to achieve, doctors should refer to these domains throughout the process of maintaining competence.
